What Value Can We Put On Health?

By Michael Reynolds

"Hi! How are you?" So many of us hear something like this practically every day. Most of us answer simply by saying "Fine." But how are you... really?! Are you paying attention to your health, or do you mainly notice it when your condition is undesirable? When we get sick, we have no choice but to pay full attention to our body's needs. But why wait until we are sick to do something about our health? It costs more money and time to correct an illness than it does to maintain good health.

We all know how to handle the body's basic needs. We know how it feels when it is time to eliminate waste, or when it is time to eat. The body has many more signals to tell us about its needs. Sometimes they are very subtle and we may only notice them if we take the time to stop what we are doing and "listen" for a while. Occasionally, the urge to eat is not just a need for any kind of food. Perhaps, the body may be in need of a particular ingredient. For example, many people mistake hunger for a desire for water. Maybe the body is craving salt---for maintaining electro-chemical balances---and we interpret this as a desire for potato chips, which might not be a healthy choice.

The body sends signals throughout itself which are used to pass information about the status of organs and various functions. This is also used to keep the brain informed about the body's overall condition. If we learn to listen and understand the messages, we may be able to maintain good overall health by supplying the body with what it really needs. Normally, if we can take care of these needs soon enough, the body will be able to maintain good health. However, we may not be listening to the subtle messages, and so the body talks a little louder. We may start getting tired, weak, or sluggish. If we still do not listen, the body will make sure we have no choice but to pay attention by lying sick in bed. Finally, the body may be getting what it needs, but now it is going to take a while to return to good health. Time is very valuable to most people these days and now it is being consumed by seeing to the body's needs. Then there is the money: A trip to the doctor and possibly lost wages from missed work. It does not need to be this way!

How much value do you put on good health? Is it worth the effort to maintain it? Do you know what the body needs when it is asking for help? This is the only body you have; there are no trade-ins. Good health should be sought by everyone and, once it has been achieved, we must do all we can to maintain it. We cannot afford to neglect the body's needs. It is the only true vehicle we have in which to travel while we live here on Earth. So please, start listening to your body. It can make your life much more enjoyable!

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Oxygen - It's a Real Gas

By Michael Reynolds

What is colorless, odorless, invisible, and essential to our daily life? Love! Okay, that may be true, but oxygen is the real focus of this article. Oxygen is extremely important to our survival, however many people do not pay much attention to it.

When we inhale, oxygen is transferred from the lungs to the bloodstream and carried, with other nutrients, to the millions of cells throughout the body. Oxygen is needed in the cells to break down carbohydrates and fats into energy. Carbon-dioxide is a byproduct of metabolism in the cells and gets released into the blood where it is carried back to lungs to be exhaled.

There is something very interesting about carbon-dioxide. The body considers it a poison, which is why it needs to be exhaled. However, millions of people drink soda every day which is made from carbonated water---carbon-dioxide mixed with water. I am not saying to completely cut out soda, but why not reach for a glass of regular water (hopefully purified) instead, sometimes?

Breathing is normally done unconsciously, and automatically, but we become very aware of it during "heavy-duty" exercise, such as running. We may start gasping for air as if there were not enough to go around. When our heart beat and metabolic rate increase, our body demands more oxygen to keep going. Whenever people become suddenly scared or startled, they almost immediately start breathing heavily. The body knows that it needs more oxygen to maintain the energy level during exercise and to calm and relax the body during times of stress.

However, during stressful conditions, many people become tense and hardly breathe at all. This tends to increase stress on the body. This, in turn, can make it more difficult to manage the stressful situation. During this time, your body is probably begging for more oxygen. Why not take time to give it some? If you find yourself under heavy stress, spend a few minutes doing some deep breathing.

I have noticed two different forms of breathing. Upper chest breathing seems to increase energy, which is usually the type of breathing occurring during exercise. It is relatively fast, depending on the body’s activity. Abdominal, or stomach, breathing seems to increase relaxation. It works best when it is slow and deep. I have found that I can quickly, and easily, relax myself by taking a very deep breath, holding it for a few moments, and then s-l-o-w-l-y exhaling.

Concerning exhaling, since most people have a tendency to breathe shallowly, it may be a good idea to completely empty the lungs occasionally. Shallow breathing causes air to sit around in the lungs for an extended period of time and it can become stale. Blowing out this air will allow it to be replaced by a batch of fresh air.

Smoking tobacco limits the quantity and quality of oxygen being inhaled. The result can be a lack in endurance and difficulty with breathing. Some people may feel that they are not getting enough air during exercise. One reason is that the tar from tobacco smoke can clog the passages within the lung's bronchioles. This is where the gas exchange takes place between the lungs and the bloodstream. If this process is limited, the body will not get enough oxygen in its bloodstream to function at peak efficiency.

Oxygen is vital to our existence. We need to make sure we are getting a good, clean, supply of it. Give the body a chance to fully utilize it. Take time to relax, get outdoors more often, and remember to BREATHE!

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Parasites are not mentioned very much these days. We tend to think that with "modern" sanitization and health standards, that we have basically protected ourself from exposure to these little, sometimes microscopic, varmits. Well, here's some news - they're still around, folks! We can talk more about heartworms and tapeworms, and many others, later.

Also, before I launch you into this interesting read, I want to assure you that our herbal formulas can and will kill parasites. Herbs are very high in minerals. If you are using herbs best suited for sufficating a particular type of parasite, the job will be relatively easy. One other thought is that there are certain times of day to take the herbs, depending on the type of herb and parasite. I have worked with parasites such as roundworms, blood flukes, giardia, malarial, and even lung flukes with great success.

Fight Back Against Plaque

By Michael Reynolds

When you had your teeth cleaned at your dentist's office, were you told about an excessive buildup of plaque or tartar? Did they tell you it could possibly lead to further complications? I want to share a simple, preventive technique, to help keep your teeth free of plaque.

Plaque is caused by microscopic bacteria, that feed on leftover nutrients on your teeth. The plaque tends to appear on the teeth along the gum line. Thorough brushing might prevent the buildup. However, anything left behind can harden within 48 hours. Within ten days, the plaque becomes tartar, which is difficult to remove. [Source: Wikipedia]

I had tartar removed at my last cleaning, and I want to avoid most of that scraping next time. I decided to brush with Black Walnut hulls each day, as part of my usual routine. I empty a capsule of Black Walnut, and apply some to a wet toothbrush, and brush as usual. The black walnut serves as a mild abrasive, and scrubs away plaque. It's best to do this

before regular brushing and flossing, because there will be particles of black walnut around your teeth. After more than one month, I have not seen any sign of plaque, and I normally would see it by now if I was not using black walnut. Another benefit is that my teeth appear whiter, and my mouth feels fresh much longer. Yet another possible benefit---although I have not verified it---is that some people claim that black walnut helps restore tooth enamel.

So, start brushing with Black Walnut, and see for yourself whether your teeth stay clean longer than before.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

You may not have talked about your bowel movements since you were a little kid, going "potty" proudly. However, how often and what consistency of waste we produce is a very good indicator of our health.

Once, I had a client whom I asked: "How often do you go?" She responded, "On a good month or a bad?" I withheld my shock and proceeded to ask her, "On a good month?" Her answer, "On a good month, I go once, on a bad month, I skip that month and go the following month." This adds up to between 4 to 6 weeks. That is not often enough!

If you are going 2-4 times a day, that is considered great. However, it needs to be of reasonably solid consistency, not rabbit pellets, but not loose either. If your digestion and elimination are sluggish, then you might consider a supplement, to improve your digestive enzymes, as well as bowel activity. One simple one that helps with both is called Bowel Detox.

On the other hand, if you have frequent, runny stools, Intestinal Soothe & Build can be very helpful. If you are missing a gall bladder, please use our Hi Lipase with every meal.

Other than that, I can help you personally, but on a general note, Intestinal Soothe & Build is very helpful.

Another client had a bleeding bowel and the doctor had him slated for surgery in two days, to remove much of his colon. We started him on Intestinal Soothe & Build, as well as Combination Potassium every two hours. The bleeding stopped and his surgery was canceled!

Success is possible with these challenges. Sometimes, we need in depth consultations to explore them. Other times, it can be easy to pick something and do well with it.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Bone broths are made of boiled bones. They were eaten frequently until 1908, when "MSG" was invented. That is the abbreviation for monosodium glutamate. The purpose of MSG is to give food a meat taste, without much work to make it. It is a "fake" meat taste. It is actually a toxin to the nerves, and unfortunately it is not labeled on food packages. It is often called "malto-dextrin." If you bought food that is labeled “no MSG,” even though that food itself might not contain MSG directly, it might have "spices" that contain MSG.

Sally Fallon Morell, who knows a lot about healthy alternatives, said that when the vegetables and meat were scarce, the people stayed healthy eating gelatin for protein. Gelatin is made of collagen, which is found in bones, cartilage, and other parts of animals. When people make bone broth, the collagen gets extracted.

Bone broths are full of nutrients. They have minerals such as calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and other trace minerals. You make bone broth by getting bones that have a lot of marrow. Put them in the oven set to 350 degrees, and take them out when brown. After that, put them in a pot to simmer, and also take the scum off as it occurs. Lemon juice can be added to extract more nutrients from the bones, and you can add salt to make the broth taste better. If you are making broth out of bones that came from a bigger animal, it could take 24 to 48 hours. Chicken, fish, and other smaller meats, only take a few hours.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.

Benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen

As we age, we lose the ability to effectively obtain adequate oxygen. Some disease conditions impair oxygen utilization, which can destroy tissue and slows healing. Hyperbaric oxygen chambers deliver oxygen in a pressurized environment. The increased pressure causes the blood plasma and tissue fluids to become saturated with oxygen. The body begins to function more efficiently as it restores its oxygen balance closer to the natural range it was originally designed to function with. The benefits of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) can be long lasting and can increase the quality of life, as well as aid in general wellness.

Whether you breathe air or pure oxygen, red blood cells can deliver only a limited level of oxygen to tissue cells. Injuries, infections, or diseases can cause a drop in this tissue oxygen level down to almost zero. Areas with a poor blood supply, such as nerves, bones, tendons, and ligaments can be slow to heal, in part due to their low oxygen supply. A pressurized hyperbaric oxygen chamber causes the body's plasma to more easily transport oxygen to these areas.

The hyperbaric chamber helps reverse the physical and psychological effects of oxygen deprivation. Increasing oxygen helps to eliminate harmful toxic substances and stimulate capillary growth and tissue repair. It helps promote healing and improves health, fitness, stamina, and endurance.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy has been used for such things as high altitude sickness, decompression sickness (the "bends"), injuries, stroke, autism, and other brain injuries. Each treatment generally lasts an hour, and it can require more than a hundred treatments to notice results, depending on the symptoms.

There are two main kinds of hyperbaric oxygen chambers: hard and soft. Hard chambers usually operate with 100% oxygen, while soft chambers use a lower concentration of oxygen, mixed with pressurized air. A hard chamber can offer swifter results, however they are normally operated by hospitals and clinics, and can cost hundreds of dollars per session.

Soft chambers can be easily operated in a home, and used as often as necessary. A typical hyperbaric system includes a soft chamber and an air compressor, and can also include an oxygen concentrator. The concentrator is used for drawing pure oxygen from the air and pumping it into the chamber. A mask can be used inside the chamber, for breathing oxygen. Over time, a soft chamber system can prove to be more economical than hard chamber treatments.

Original post blogged on b2evolution.
